HOUSTON -- Rep. Ron Paul, the iconoclastic, nine-term lawmaker from southeast Texas, took the first step Thursday toward a second, quixotic presidential bid _ this time as a Republican.

Hmm...they say it's a long shot, and I'm sure it is, but the idea might be to get a higher profile for libertarian-minded candidates. Get people talking. It's all about the media exposure (sadly).
I like this: "Paul limits his view of the role of the federal government to those duties laid out in the Constitution. As a result, he sometimes casts votes at odds with his constituents and other Republicans.Paul limits his view of the role of the federal government to those duties laid out in the Constitution. As a result, he sometimes casts votes at odds with his constituents and other Republicans."
That gets my vote, which is moot since I'm not a Republican and have no say in the primaries. Hey Dan, this guy is going to want some publicity. Perhaps he'd be a good candidate for an interview on Common Sense, eh?

Thanks for the idea...

I would vote for that man in a heartbeat. Its a shame I don't live in his district, here, otherwise I would have already....

He's a bit aged, born 1935, making him about 73 for the election and 77 by the end of his first term, making a 2nd term questionable.
Plus, in the picture here http://projects.washingtonpost.com/cong ... s/p000583/ he looks a little goofy. Or, more accurately, that particular picture does not project gravitas (something we all admire in GWB, I'm sure--that gravitas that we find reassuring when he promises that more troops will secure victory while all the other things he's promised would assure victory haven't worked).
But I digress.
I like Paul's political stance, but I'm not sure he's a viable candidate even if he could sell his politics.

If, by "gravitas", you mean "looking like a lying-ass chimpanzee", then... yes, I agree, I definitely find Bush's gravitas reassuring...
ETA - there are better pictures of Paul out there... http://www.ronpaul.org/

Update: A Fox News op-ed about Paul. Interesting read, in that it poses that Paul's inclusion in the race could force the other Repubs into answering the questions they'd rather avoid.
Best quote"
"...which is more important to core Republican voters: Limited government, or using big government to promote a conservative agenda?"

I have to be perfectly honest when I say if his campaign won't even respond to Dan at least to say "no, thanks", that would greatly lower his standing in my book.

Have you tried calling the exploratory committee??? 703-650-9559
Probably a matter of reaching the right group.... If I hear of him speaking nearby, maybe I can go talk him up on it in person...

The Liberty Forum is going on this weekend in NH, and Ron Paul is going to be a speaker at the closing ceremonies. Anyone have contact with any Free Stater going to the Forum? (Sure wish I could have gone to this. It sounds great).
BTW, Scott, I wouldn't think less of the man because his campaigners aren't getting back to Dan. If anything, his 'people' are the ones at fault, and are probably busy weeding out all those that want to interview him about the 9-11 conspiracy, Area 51, the Illuminati, and the impending UN world takeover. Libertarian candidates seem to draw in the extreme elements...
That said, yeah, whoever isn't replying to Dan needs to go back to Media Relations School.

Well guys.... part of it is the podcast part. A lot of people just don't realize the impact New Media is having (and is gonna have on the 2008 elections).
I will give his campaign a call...thanks for all the help...

Damn Joe, those are my favorite subjects.
I was talking to the brother of a friend of mine one day about the differences between capitalism and socialism. It was a nice onversation with both of us making good points and seeing the other side as well. Then, like 15 minutes in, he just busts out with "along with the fact that every U.S. President swears an oath to Satan in the Oval Office.."
As one can imagine, the conversation took a seriously southward turn after that.
