I've assigned everybody to their gift givers. You should have all gotten your private messages by now with the details. Let me know if there are any questions.
A whole lot of you signed up this year. Looks like it's going to work out even better this time!

I guess I should have posted this a few days ago...blame it on the turkey-induced drowsiness. Anyway, I love to read (a little too much maybe), so a book would be a great gift. Here are a few of my favorite subjects: Middle East history/current affairs Anything on the Founding Fathers Barnes & Noble Classics Military history/technology Ancient Rome/Greece/Egypt/etc (introductory stuff; I don't know very much but I want to learn) That's really it. I'm pretty flexible when it comes to books; I'll read just about anything.

Awwww, that's very sweet, but perhaps too generous! Besides, I'm almost never a good girl. I want to keep my husband!

Its like the 12 Days of Christmas over here with my Secret Santa... Apparently, they picked up several books from my Amazon list, and Amazon's just trickling them in, one a day... Now my wife is like "You can't read 'em yet. They have to go under the tree..." Who asked her, anyway?

Ah-ha! Little brown box on my front stoop when I checked in for lunch. It says 'DBTrek' on it, and since that's not my name I'm gonna have to assume it's the secret santa gift. Smell test reveals no traces of flames or feces. So looks like I'll wait till the 25th to open it. Hopefully it's not a pet hamster. Either way, THANKS secret-santa peep!

But, either way, Well, mebbe you just don't inspire the same strong emotions I bring out in people. I've handled the turds, brah, it ain't fun. You're all like . . . hmmmm . . . what's in this box? Ah, a wad of tissue paper delicately wrapped around . . . OH DEAR GOD, NOT ANOTHER TURD. And do they ever pack a receipt? No. You gotta return it in person. Or bounce it off their windshield. Come to think of it . . . maybe this is the wrong place for this kind of story. Happy Holidays all!

Hey Xre, thanks for the Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver, I've been kind of wanting one of those but whenever I've looked before they've been sold out. I'm glad you managed to find one!

So, my Secret Santa got me a wonderful gift (and thoughtful of my particular geekiness ). . . a reproduction of an antique Dutch map of what's today greater NYC: Manatvs gelegen op de Noot Riuier(Manhattan lying on the North River [today known as the Hudson River])
Traditionally attributed to Joan Vinckeboons, a cartographer for the Dutch West India Company, this map of the New York City region is considered the earliest survey of Manhattan Island (called Eyland Manatus on the map). The locations of numerous Dutch plantations are shown, described by a legend of owner's names in the bottom right, and several place names appear that exist today, such as Staten Eylant (Staten Island) and Conyne Eylant (Coney Island).
Map Year: 1639 Mapmaker: Joan Vinckeboons Santa also sent me some cookies native to the (not so) North Pole. Many thanks, Secret Santa! & thanks again, Parrot!
